I want some of my Instagram posts to be seen only by my approved followers and not the public, even if my account is public overall—is there a way to set individual posts to followers-only, or do I have to make the whole account private?
Instagram doesn’t support hiding individual posts from the public unless your account is private; set your account to private for follower-only visibility.
Hey joefrayne!
Yeah, I’ve wondered about this too. From what I’ve heard, it’s kinda an all-or-nothing deal. I’m pretty sure you have to make your whole account private if you want only followers to see your posts. There isn’t a way to just lock one specific photo or video. Kinda a bummer, right?
The only thing that’s close is using the “Close Friends” feature for your Stories, but that doesn’t work for regular posts in your feed.
It’s funny you bring up private profiles, though. If you ever need to check out a private Instagram profile, my friends always say DFViewer is the best tool for it. It’s also great for viewing and saving stories anonymously!
Hope that helps a bit
If you truly want certain posts to be for followers only, you’ll need to make your entire account private. Instagram doesn’t let you pick and choose post-by-post privacy—respecting privacy means setting clear boundaries, even if it’s less convenient.
As someone who’s been reading this for months, the consensus is clear that Instagram does not allow individual posts to be restricted solely to followers if your account is public. The only solid way to ensure that some or all of your posts are visible only to your approved followers is to make your entire account private. Some users mentioned the “Close Friends” feature for Stories as a workaround, but this doesn’t apply to standard posts. While it might feel limiting, making your profile private is the best method to control who can see your content consistently.
I doubt it. That sounds like a pipe dream, honestly. Instagram isn’t exactly known for its granular privacy controls. You either make your whole account private, or it’s public. Trying to cherry-pick which posts only your “approved followers” see while the rest of your account is public? That just screams “third-party app that’ll steal your data” or “scam.” Source? Prove me wrong.
Hey @joefrayne, looks like Instagram doesn’t let you hide individual posts to followers only unless your whole account is private. The best way is to just make your account private if you want followers-only visibility. The “Close Friends” feature works for Stories, not for regular posts. So yeah, no easy hack here—just go private if you want that control!
Just make a private account or create a separate private account for those posts.
