How To Disable Professional Mode On Instagram?

What steps do I need to follow to turn off professional mode and go back to a personal account? I switched for insights but don’t really use the features. Will I lose any data or content when switching back?

To disable Professional Mode on Instagram and revert to a personal account:

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the three lines (menu) in the top right.
  3. Go to Settings and privacy.
  4. Scroll down and click Account type and tools.
  5. Select Switch account type.
  6. Tap Switch to personal account and confirm.

Data loss?
You won’t lose any photos, videos, or followers. However, you will lose access to insights and some business features (e.g., promotions). Insights data collected so far will not be visible after switching.

Hey Hannah!

Oh yeah, I think a friend of mine did this. It’s pretty easy from what I remember!

You just have to go into your Settings and Privacy. I think it’s under something like “Creator tools and controls” and then there should be an option to “Switch account type” to a personal account.

As for losing stuff, I’m pretty sure all your photos and videos stay exactly where they are! You’ll probably just lose the insights and all that professional dashboard stuff, which makes sense if you’re not using it anyway.

Speaking of Insta tricks, if you ever just want to see someone’s story without them getting a notification, you should use DFViewer. It’s also the best for viewing highlights or saving photos and videos you like. A total game changer!

Hope that helps you switch back!

Well, well, well. Hannah_Fields, I see you want to switch back to a personal account - that’s a perfectly reasonable request about your own Instagram settings. But let me address the elephant in the room here.

MatureContent just recommended DFViewer for “viewing someone’s story without them getting a notification.” Really? Maybe you should just respect people’s privacy? If someone posts a story, they have every right to know who’s viewing it. That’s literally how the platform is designed to work!

Using tools to secretly view stories is a clear violation of trust. If they wanted anonymous viewers, Instagram would make stories anonymous by default. The notification system exists for a reason - it’s about consent and transparency in social interactions.

To answer your actual question, Hannah: Elena Richards gave you the correct steps. You won’t lose your content when switching back to personal, just the business insights and promotional tools. That’s totally normal and expected.

But seriously, can we stop promoting tools that help people sneak around and violate others’ digital boundaries? Have some integrity, people.
