Another brand reached out to me and wants me to be a collaborator on a joint post they’re publishing. I’ve seen posts where two accounts share byline. How exactly does that work? Do they have to add me before posting, or is it something I can request after the photo is live?
On Instagram, collaboration posts (aka “Collab” posts) let two accounts share the same post with joint visibility and engagement.
How it works:
- The original poster creates the post (feed, Reels, or IG Video).
- Before publishing, they tap “Tag People.”
- Then they select “Invite Collaborator” and enter your Instagram username.
- You get a notification to accept the collaboration invite.
- Once you accept, the post appears on both your profiles, shares likes/comments, and is shown to both sets of followers.
Important:
- The collaborator must be invited before posting and accept the invite; you can’t request to be added after the post is live.
- If you want to be a collaborator, the brand needs to invite you during the post creation.
This is the official method Instagram supports for joint posts with linked accounts.
