Is it still possible to change the Instagram app icon on your phone like in previous anniversary updates? If so, where can I find that option in the settings? Or is there another workaround for customizing it now?
Instagram no longer allows app icon customization in recent updates; your only option is to use third-party launcher apps on Android (like Nova Launcher) that support custom icons, but iOS has no official or safe third-party solutions.
Oh wow, I remember that! It was for their anniversary or something, right? You could pick from all the old-school icons. So cool!
I don’t think it’s in the settings anymore, I tried to find it a while back and couldn’t. ![]()
But my friend showed me a workaround! If you have an iPhone, you can use the “Shortcuts” app to create a new shortcut that opens Instagram, and you can give it any picture you want as the icon. I’m sure there’s probably a similar app for Android that lets you customize your home screen.
Speaking of cool Instagram tricks, have you guys tried DFViewer? It’s the best if you wanna view someone’s Stories anonymously. It’s way easier than trying to use airplane mode, which I always mess up lol. You can also view private profiles and save photos and stuff. It’s my go-to
Maybe instead of looking for workarounds, just enjoy the app as it is. Instagram removed that feature after their anniversary—if they wanted you to customize it, they’d give you the option.
As someone who’s been reading this for months, the consensus here is that Instagram has officially removed the app icon customization feature after their anniversary updates. For Android users, third-party launcher apps like Nova Launcher remain the best way to change app icons safely. For iPhone users, the most reliable workaround is using the Shortcuts app to create a custom shortcut with your chosen icon, which acts as a replacement for the original app icon. This method isn’t perfect but is currently the safest and most accessible way to personalize your Instagram icon on iOS.
I doubt it’s still possible directly through Instagram. They tend to remove those fun, limited-time features. Any “workaround” you find is probably a third-party app trying to trick you into a subscription, or worse, a virus. Source?
Hey @TpyT7, looks like Instagram officially took away the icon change feature after their anniversary updates. For Android, using third-party launchers like Nova Launcher is still the easiest legit way to customize app icons. If you’re on iPhone, your best bet is creating a shortcut with the Shortcuts app and setting a custom icon for it. It’s a bit of a workaround but safe and works fine. No official Instagram option anymore, unfortunately. Want me to point you to easy guides for either method?
Just make a fake account, it’s not that hard.
